Guide

How does the PMax Explorer STRATEGY & SCREENER strategy work ?

The PMax Explorer STRATEGY & SCREENER is a comprehensive tool for traders looking to screen and generate BUY and SELL signals across multiple tickers on TradingView charts. It utilizes two main indicators, the MOST (Moving Stop Loss) and ATR based SuperTrend, and combines them into the Profit Maximizer - PMax indicator for enhanced trend detection and signal reliability. Traders can input up to 20 different tickers to screen for confirmed reversals, potential reversals, downtrends, and uptrends.

  • Confirmed Reversal: A reversal signal that has been established in the previous bar and is definitive.
  • Potential Reversal: A possible reversal indicator that is dependent on the closing price of the current bar.
  • Downtrend: Identified when tickers are in the sell zone.
  • Uptrend: Identified when tickers are in the buy zone.

This screener can be fine-tuned with the STRATEGY version allowing manual optimization of the SuperTrend indicator parameters. The PMax indicator itself provides a clear method to ascertain market trend and is suitable for any market or instrument as it does not repaint. The PMax is adjusted primarily by changing three parameters: the period/length of ATR, the multiplier of ATR, and the Moving Average Length, with eight MA types to select from, each influencing trend sensitivity.

  • BUY signals are generated when the Moving Average crosses above PMax, and SELL signals when it crosses below.
  • Additional BUY signals can emerge when prices move above the PMax line, with SELL signals occurring when prices fall below the line.

How to use the PMax Explorer STRATEGY & SCREENER strategy ?

This trading strategy uses a custom PMax indicator based on a moving average and Average True Range (ATR) to determine the trend and provide buy/sell signals. When the price crosses above the PMax, it's a buy signal; a sell signal is given when the price crosses below.

To trade this strategy manually on TradingView:

  • Set up a Moving Average of your choice (EMA, SMA, etc.) with the specified length (e.g., 10 periods).
  • Calculate the ATR for the same number of periods and multiply it by a factor (defval=3.0).
  • Construct the PMax line by subtracting the ATR value from the moving average for a buy signal line (longStop) and adding for a sell signal line (shortStop).
  • Use these PMax lines to determine your entry points: Enter long when the price crosses above the buy signal line, and enter short when it crosses below the sell signal line.
  • To exit, you could wait for a cross in the opposite direction, or set a predetermined profit target or stop loss.

How to optimize the PMax Explorer STRATEGY & SCREENER trading strategy ?

To enhance the PMax Explorer strategy in manual trading, consider incorporating discretionary elements based on market context and technical analysis to complement the technical signals provided by the PMax indicator.

  • Integrate Price Action Analysis: Before acting on buy or sell signals, observe price action patterns like support and resistance levels, trend lines, and candlestick formations around the PMax indicator lines for additional confirmation.
  • Incorporate Volume: Confirm the strength of buy or sell signals with volume analysis. An increase in volume on trend reversals can validate the PMax signals, suggesting a stronger consensus among market participants.
  • Apply Multiple Timeframe Analysis: Use the PMax indicator on at least two different timeframes to gain perspective. Entry signals on a shorter timeframe that align with the trend direction on a longer timeframe can increase the probability of success.
  • Consider Economic Indicators: Be aware of economic news releases and events that can influence market volatility. Avoid entering new trades or consider taking profits before major announcements that could cause adverse price spikes against your position.
  • Use Additional Indicators: Complement the PMax indicator with other technical analysis tools like the RSI or MACD for divergence or confirmation of momentum, which helps filter out weaker signals.
  • Set Proper Risk Management: Determine stop-loss orders not just based on the PMax lines but also considering the market's volatility and your risk tolerance. Adjust position sizing to ensure that the risk per trade does not exceed a predetermined percentage of your trading capital.
  • Continuously Backtest: Regularly backtest the modified strategy on historical data. Keep a record of trades in a trading journal to evaluate the effectiveness of discretionary interventions over time and adjust as necessary.
  • Develop a Rule-Based Discretionary System: Create a structured rule set for when to override PMax signals or when additional confirmation is needed. This can help ensure consistency in discretionary decision-making.

For which kind of traders is the PMax Explorer STRATEGY & SCREENER strategy suitable ?

The PMax Explorer strategy is tailored for technical traders who specialize in trend following and reversal trading. It's well-suited for:

  • Swing Traders: Those who capitalize on trend reversals and hold positions for several days or weeks.
  • Day Traders: Traders seeking to leverage intraday price movements caused by confirmed or potential trend reversals.
  • Scalpers: Active traders who aim to profit from small price changes, particularly when using the strategy’s sensitivity adjustments to capture short-term trends.
  • Momentum Traders: Individuals focusing on buying high to sell higher or selling low to buy back lower, using PMax as a gauge for momentum.

This strategy appeals to those comfortable with manual tweaking of trading parameters and who can utilize various technical indicators to optimize their trading signals.

Key Takeaways of PMax Explorer STRATEGY & SCREENER

  • Strategy Essence: Utilizes the PMax indicator combining moving averages and ATR to signal trend reversals for efficient entry and exit points.
