How does the Simple Bollinger Bands Strategy [JoseMetal] strategy work ?
The Simple Bollinger Bands Strategy by JoseMetal is an optimized version of a strategy by "nealosis" that utilizes Bollinger Bands to determine entry and exit points in the market. Initially designed for major indices such as the SP500, the strategy had to be adapted to remain viable in the current economic climate.
The original approach involved:
- A 20-period simple moving average with 2 standard deviations for the Bollinger Bands.
- A buy signal when the closing price moves above the lower Bollinger Band.
- An exit signal when the closing price reaches the upper Bollinger Band.
Modifications made to the strategy include:
- The ability to take both LONG and SHORT positions; however, LONGs are recommended for naturally bullish assets like Bitcoin or indices.
- Customizable Bollinger Band settings, with a suggestion of a 1.5 standard deviation to trigger more frequent trades.
- Implementing averaging with up to 7 positions at 1% capital each, fully customizable.
Additional features:
- Selecting specific date ranges for trading.
- Adjustment of the capital percentage used per trade.
- Closing positions only when in profit.
- Increasing position size only when the price is a certain percentage above the average.
- Option to trade with leverage.
- A visual aspect that includes background color changes (green for LONG entries, red for SHORTs, olive to close LONGs, and orange to close SHORTs) and TradingView's default display of entry/exit points and contract sizes.
Customization is extensive, covering everything from selecting date ranges to modifying BB colors. It's recommended to use this strategy on larger timeframes, with daily charts being optimal.</
